Laughter. Delivered.

[In celebration of a different life created and protected and in anticipation of his future I thought I would post this poem] *written 1/9/09 by me*

Shrill and piercing
cry reverently shreds
the still night air.
Baba outside
breathing heavily-
pregnant with anticipation.
With hope.
Counting stars
to keep
from counting minutes.
Never had his ears
received such a welcomed
beautiful sound.

It tore through his ear drums
and crashed around inside
his now exploding brain
before it found its exit
behind squares of creamy white.
Rushing over his rough, red tongue
it came to the open again
into full-throated maturity.

Somewhere between 500 +501
the world had shattered-
the sky had fallen
and was raining down,
landing on his cheeks
in large, wet droplets
that course across the wadis
of his face.

He could hear her now.
Her lambing cry
had turned
to suck in all the atmosphere
and release slowly
in held back tears.

Was it only yesterday
her fingers were lumps
of crooked metal
that could no longer hold
the shuttle and the yarn?
Slowly she turned her aging
brain over and around.
What were the names
of her parents' great-grandparents?
Where had she placed her spoon?

Tonight with her shrieking melody
clustered 'round her
she barely heard the piercing,
persistent, newer note woven in.
The riverbeds of her heart
had long grown
encrusted and cracked.
Those who looked for water,
dug their wells deep indeed.

So what was this?
Something felt damp
against her crackly skin.

Smooth round downy head
against her wrinkly chest.
At last, her hands were holding
the laughter He had promised.
The ironic, glorious, redemptive son.
He had remembered her.
And laughed.
